Description: This project, located within a conservation area, provided a number of design challenges. As the site is covered with a considerable amount of large mature trees, within a close proximity to the existing bungalow, all design aspects had to be careful considered and clever design had to be undertaken.
The design had to be considerate of its surroundings, not disrupting any of the existing foliage. Working closely with the client to develop the brief, we produced a scheme that worked well in achieving a large dwelling on a very tight site. Using natural, locally sourced materials, including stone and timber, the design sat well in its surroundings. Using these natural materials to break up the fenestration we managed to break up the mass of the building, helping provide depth and character to the elevations.
